Advancing SHA’s Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
A Shared Journey Forward: supporting Métis communities
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) Western Region III are making a meaningful impact through community-driven health initiatives. This partnership led to a two-day health conference and on-going information sessions, covering chronic disease, addiction, and vaccinations.
"Through our partnership, we are proud to bring accessible health and wellness programming to the Métis citizens of our community, empowering individuals to thrive in both body and spirit while honouring our shared commitment to cultural strength and wellbeing," said Western Region III Regional Representative, Wendy Gervais.
Guided by the MN–S matriarch group and hosted at the Western Region III office in Regina, sessions have included naloxone training and on-site vaccinations, creating a safe and supportive space for open conversation.
“It's essential that we recognize the distinct needs of Métis communities and create accessible, trusted spaces for discussion,” said Heather Sinclair-Birns, SHA Primary Health Care Central Network Director who initiated the partnership.
Planning is underway for another health conference, reinforcing the commitment to improving health outcomes for Métis people.
