Long COVID Self-Management - Hand-Held Fan
Using a hand-held fan can help reduce the feeling of shortness of breath. It is believed that by cooling the air that goes into your nose, the receptors in your nose send a signal to your brain, which reduces the sensation of shortness of breath.
How to Perform the Hand-Held Fan Method
- Hold the fan about 12 inches away from your nose.
- Make sure the fan is angled up towards the lower part of your face and nose.
- Slowly move it side to side so you get the cold flow of air across your face.
- Use some of the breathing methods mentioned before, such as pursed lip breathing.
