Why should I be worried about a blood or body fluids exposure?
- A blood or body fluids exposure may be a risk for HIV, hepatitis B or C.
- Exposures though sex also have a risk for sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis
- A blood or body fluids exposure occurs when a person has:
- A needle poke or sharp instrument injury
- A splash to their eyes, nose, mouth or non-intact (broken) skin
- A human bite
- Sex with someone who might be at risk of these infections
