Hospital & Health Foundations
What is a Foundation?
Health and hospital foundations were traditionally created in many communities across Canada to support their local hospitals and health care facilities. In Saskatchewan, they have raised hundreds of millions of dollars to invest in state of the art technology, equipment, medical research and clinical education to ensure that our hospitals can provide the best care possible, in both our urban and rural communities.
Your local health and hospital foundation is a registered charitable organization, overseen by a volunteer board of directors. By actively soliciting and partnering with individual donors, corporations and community organizations who understand and support the importance of quality local health care, hospital foundations exist to enhance and improve the level of health care at our hospitals and care facilities.
Foundations ask for and secure donations, manage legacy gifts and endowed funds, organize major capital campaigns, execute special events, and report back to their donors about priority needs and advancements in health care through their newsletters, websites and social media. Every gift they receive makes a difference and stays local to support excellence in health care within the community they were created to serve.
Funds raised by your foundation finance a host of needs – from investing in major equipment upgrades and sophisticated new technologies, to providing for patient comfort, supporting medical research, and advancing education and training opportunities for our health care professionals. Working in partnership with the community, Foundations allow donors to meet their philanthropic goals while helping them to invest in the best possible health care in their community.
All foundations are expected to observe and abide by CRA regulations and the fundraising ethical principles and guidelines of Canadian charitable sector professional bodies, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) and Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP).
Saskatchewan’s health and hospital foundations are vital partners to the Saskatchewan Health Authority. We work together to support the priority needs of our facilities and communities, making sure that people in our province have access to the best care, as close to home as possible.
