About Us
Clinical members of the Kinetik Rehabilitation Services team include physical therapists, occupational therapists, exercise therapists, psychologists, and a rehabilitation coordinator. All of these individuals have extensive knowledge and experience in musculo-skeletal and mental health assessment and treatment.
- Physical therapists with advanced orthopedic training evaluate injuries related to work, motor vehicle, sports, and activities of daily living injuries. Physical therapy treatment can include, but is not limited to, manual therapy, aquatic therapy, acupuncture, dry needling, exercise prescription, vestibular/balance retraining, pelvic floor assessment and treatments, use of treatment modalities including ultrasound, shock wave therapy and laser therapy, recommending assistive devices/walking aids/orthotics and education regarding the injury with focus on the development of self-management strategies.
- Occupational therapists assist clients to reach and maintain their highest level of function by treatment of client limitations, education and modification of the environment. Occupational therapists provide a range of assessments and treatment including: facilitating graduated return to work/home/community programs, prescribing functional conditioning and work simulation programs, as well as conducting functional capacity evaluations, residual capacity evaluations and functional ability evaluations. Occupational Therapists are skilled in completing worksite assessments, physical demands analysis, driver evaluation assessments and ergonomic evaluations. Occupational Therapists also specialize in upper extremity injuries often as a result of trauma or repetitive strain. Hand therapy may include wound and scar management, pain management, range of motion exercises, strengthening, dexterity training and desensitization.
- Exercise Therapists at Kinetik Rehabilitation Services provide treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. Exercise Therapists also assist in client’s return to active leisure pursuits. Instruction of individual strength, flexibility, cardiovascular, aquatic therapy, core stability and fitness education is provided by the Exercise Therapist.
- Psychologists at Kinetik Rehabilitation Services assess and treat mental health problems and psychosocial concerns related to workplace injuries. The assessment process involves questions about pain, mood, anxiety, stress, sleep, coping mechanisms, family and other social supports, and any other issues that might be affecting their mental health and physical recovery. Treatment involves psychotherapy (talk therapy) to help clients cope more effectively with any of these areas which are causing them difficulty.
- The Rehabilitation Coordinator facilitates the organization of assessments from external stakeholders which involves gathering specific information about the questions to be answered by the assessment team. The Rehabilitation Coordinator can ensure that the most appropriate assessment is completed based on the needs of the referral agency and referral questions.
- Referrals to Kinetik can be made through a client’s Medical Practitioner, SGI, WCB, private companies/insurance, and/or self-referral.
Programs and Services
- Primary Physical Therapy Services – These services can be accessed by any clientele including private payers, motor vehicle, WCB, and sports injury clients.
- Upper Extremity Program - Upper extremity injuries can often occur as a result of trauma or repetitive strain. Hand therapy may include wound and scar management, pain management, range of motion exercises, strengthening, dexterity training and desensitization programs.
- Worksite Assessment/Physical Demands Analysis - An occupational therapist from Kinetik Rehabilitation Services visits your worksite to assess overall work environment, identify different tasks required of specific jobs, and determine physical demands of each task. This establishes physical and behavioural abilities needed to perform specific jobs. Results are used as a standard for the job. By comparing the physical demands of a job with the physical abilities of workers, Kinetik Rehabilitation Services is able to develop injury prevention strategies within the workplace. Kinetik Rehabilitation Services can also suggest modifications to the worksite, to fit the physical demands of work to the physical capacity of employees. These assessments are an asset in:
- Orientating new employees
- Matching jobs to employees with work restrictions where there is a duty to accommodate.
- Developing accurate Pre-Employment Screens
- Ergonomic Assessments – An Occupational Therapist assesses the set-up of the workspace and can make recommendations including equipment, proper seating, and office set-up to assist with minimizing discomfort in the work station and prevention of work-related injuries.
- Driver Evaluation Program - The Driver Evaluation Program provides a comprehensive functional based assessment to determine a person’s ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Assessment includes both in-house and on-road testing components. Referrals are accepted from Health care professionals, family members, third party insurers such as SGI or WCB and individuals themselves. At completion of the assessment recommendations regarding necessary equipment, training required, compensatory measures, and /or various restrictions (e.g. driving in a specific driving environment, familiar areas, day time etc.) are made and explained to the individual.
