Ethics Committees

There are fifteen (15) local ethics committees in Saskatchewan. Committee members include staff and community members. They look at situations from many different points of view and identify ethical issues. They can help you (and the care team) weigh the pros and cons of each option and make an informed decision. Committees will have support from an ethicist.

Function of Ethics Committees

Ethics committees are a resource for patients, residents and clients, staff and health-care providers. Anyone can bring up an ethics problem to get help from the Ethics Committee. They frequently help SHA staff with:

• Research activities
• Developing policies and procedures 
• Rules and regulations
• Patient care plans

Confidentiality

Ethics committees follow our policy on the use and release of personal health information. A written record of all consultation meetings is made and maintained. This is to ensure your information is only shared with those who need to be included.
