Community and Intersectoral Partner Engagement
Engaging community promotes good health and well-being at individual and community levels. This includes public participation, social support networks, policy and social change and action across different government and community organizations and sectors.
Strengthening community action through processes of community development is required, in addition to working with communities to identify, enhance and enact relevant, timely and appropriate strategies.
Intersectoral action is important for working on persistent and complex system problems. The main contributors to health outcomes (good or not as good) are beyond the scope of the health care system and of any one organization. Through shared goals we have a collective impact; the health system is often a participant and not the lead. Therefore, different structures and approaches may be needed (i.e., to enable, mediate and advocate).
