Local Palliative Home Care Teams

Local home care teams across the province support patients with palliative needs. They may work with a local Palliative Coordinator.  Your physician/nurse practitioner can make a referral to connect you with your local health care team. Palliative Drug Coverage Program

Patients in the late stages of an illness may be eligible to receive special drug coverage. Your physician/nurse practitioner can apply for this if you are eligible. The patient's pharmacy will bill the Drug Plan for 100% of the cost of any prescription drugs listed in the Saskatchewan Formulary.

Palliative Home Oxygen Benefits

If you are in the end stages of an illness for which you require home oxygen, you may be eligible to receive coverage for home oxygen products. A palliative nurse coordinator and a physician can apply for this if you are eligible.

St. Paul’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit (Saskatoon)

For more than 25 years, the Palliative Care Unit on the fifth floor of St. Paul’s Hospital has been providing compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their families. The Palliative Care Unit provides excellent, holistic comfort care with 24/7 nursing care for patients with significant medical needs in the last weeks or month of life.

Hospice at Glengarda (Saskatoon)

The hospice is designed for adults requiring end-of-life care in the last three months of progressive illness or disease, focused on meticulous, holistic comfort care. Their care is focused on the whole person: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social. The interdisciplinary team includes nurses, physicians, support staff, client care coordinators, pharmacists, social workers, as well as spiritual care and healing arts professionals.
