About This Facility
Sherbrooke Community Centre is home to 268 elders. Sherbrooke has elder directed philosophy where people live in a world designed to help them succeed. Our community is filled with choice and opportunities. Our community is based on love and kindness.
Some of the unique features are the Kinsmen and Veterans Villages where 9-10 elders live in a house together supported by consistent multi-skilled staff. The houses are attached to Sherbrooke through an internal street. The model draws health care professionals from all over the world.
Our community also includes: The Robert A. Carter Centre for Learning, Pool, Greenhouse, Tawaw Centre for large gatherings, Oak Trees and Acorn Child Care Centre for 36 children, Art Galleries, Kaleidoscope, Centre for Creativity, and Snoezelen Room (Secret Garden) and the iGen intergenerational grade 6 program.

Mission
Sherbrooke Community Centre creates an environment that supports people to live full and abundant lives.
Vision
Sherbrooke Community Centre will be a rich and diverse habitat where children, plants and animals are a natural part of everyday life. Sherbrooke Community Centre will support quality of life and growth of each individual and the Sherbrooke Community Centre as a whole. We will strive to provide each resident with companionship, opportunities to give and receive care and a diverse environment rich with spontaneity and variety.
The environment will support the health and well-being of employees. Sherbrooke Community Centre will be an organization where staff can make a difference. We will support our staff as individual community members and encourage them to develop their strengths and passions in meeting our mission. Their work will be meaningful and rewarding.
Sherbrooke Community Centre will fulfill its mission within an external environment that is shaped by the changing expectations of the public, limited resources, and a focus on primary prevention where consumers become partners in their own health care planning.
Inherent in this vision is a commitment to:
- Community need
- Quality of life through the Eden Alternative™ Philosophy
- Person-directed care and services
- Supportive work environment
- Education and research
- Innovation and partnerships
- Fiscal responsibility
- Leadership in the community
Philosophy of Care
The Eden Alternative® is a philosophy which seeks to alleviate the three plagues of long-term care – loneliness, helplessness and boredom through the creation of a healthy community, a human habitat, where relationships grow, where there are opportunities to give and receive care and where variety and spontaneity flourish. The ultimate outcome of the Eden Alternative Philosophy is that all members of the community have opportunity to experience well-being.
