Watch: CEO Andrew Will explains SHA Values and Mission Update
Increasing acute care space at Saskatoon City Hospital reflects the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s commitment to deliver compassionate, high-quality care while supporting our staff with the resources they need.
Adding 109 acute care beds to the hospital, in partnership with the Government of Saskatchewan, will enhance safety, reduce emergency department wait times, and create respectful, healing environments. The phased expansion will allow our emergency departments to admit patients more efficiently, reducing patient wait times for hospital admission and ensure patients receive the right care in the right care setting. Watch this video to hear from John Ash, Vice-President of Integrated Saskatoon Health with the SHA, regarding the expansion.
This milestone reflects the SHA CARES values of compassion, accountability, respect, equity, and safety as we build a stronger, more responsive health care system.
Mission

Vision
Healthy People, Healthy Saskatchewan
Values (C.A.R.E.S.)
Compassion: We are caring. We practice empathy. We listen actively to understand each other's experiences.
Accountability: We are responsible. We own each action and decision. We are transparent and have the courage to speak up.
Respect: We are collaborative. We treat everyone with kindness, dignity, and empathy. We honour diversity and value each person as an individual.
Equity: We are committed to health equity. We recognize that factors such as geographic location, culture, and background are key determinants of health outcomes. We embrace the diversity of our teams, and work to remove barriers to ensure all Saskatchewan residents and communities can access high-quality care.
Safety: We are aware. We commit to physical, psychological, social, cultural and environmental safety. Every day. For everyone.
Philosophy of Care
Our commitment to a philosophy of Patient and Family Centred Care is at the heart of everything we do and is the foundation for our values. This philosophy of care is in essence our culture – who we are, the shared purpose that brings us all together and how our patients and families experience care every day. Through meaningful engagement and co-creating mutually beneficial partnerships among employees, physicians, patients, families, clients and residents, together we ensure a seamless health system that supports Healthy People, Healthy Saskatchewan
Our Commitment to Each Other - SHA Patient Rights and Responsibilities: Our Commitment to Each Other outlines what both patients and care teams can expect from each other during a patient’s care journey, no matter where the care is received in the province. Adopting a Patient Rights and Responsibilities charter shows how committed we are to providing safe, patient family centred care.
SHA Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation: In 2024, we as an organization reaffirmed our commitment to advancing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action in honour of the 6,500 residential school survivors who have shared their stories. Following our initial commitment in 2019, we initiated several actions focused on providing equitable, accessible and culturally responsive health care. We committed then to being inclusive and respectful in all we do as we deliver quality care to everyone in this province, and through our reaffirmation in 2024, commit again to enhancing health outcomes with Indigenous people across the province by working collaboratively with First Nations and Métis communities.
SHA Safety Charter: This charter, signed in 2019, sets the SHA’s course towards a culture of safety and continuous improvement that provides patient and family centered care and services. This culture proactively focuses on the elimination of preventable harm and has a climate of psychological and cultural safety. In this culture, everyone must take responsibility for their role in supporting a safe environment.
