Recreational Water Safety
Public Health Inspectors work to ensure recreational waters are safe and prevent the spread of disease. Recreational waters can include beaches, hot tubs, swimming pools and waterslide facilities.
Public swimming pools in Saskatchewan are regulated under The Swimming Pool Regulations 1999, along with Design and Operational Standards.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority offers a Swimming Pool Operators Course (SPOC) for all individuals involved in the operation of a swimming pool or hot tub. This course may be taken by anyone who has an interest in learning more about the design and operation of a swimming pool or whirlpool.
The topics that will be covered in this course include:
-
Pool Equipment and Recirculation
-
Pool Water Filtration
-
Pool Water Chemistry
-
Swimming Pool Water Disinfection
-
Whirlpools
To ensure the requirements outlined in the Swimming Pool Regulations, 1999 are met and to help ensure the ongoing safe operation of your public swimming pool, we encourage you to send any other staff involved with your public swimming pool operation. This may include lifeguards, town maintenance staff, and recreation board members.
