Role overview
The Rapid Evidence Synthesis Team (REST) is a partnership between the University of Saskatchewan (USask), the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and the Saskatchewan Centre for Patient-Oriented Researcher (SCPOR). The REST provides rapid evidence to facilitate decision-making and policy creation to improve healthcare in the province. The REST will be primarily supporting the SHA’s provincial healthcare priorities. The REST aims to engage patient partners in the evidence synthesis process.
Required knowledge, experience, skills
Patient partners with lived experiences navigating the provincial healthcare system are preferred but not required. Literature review experience is not necessary, training will be provided to engage patient partners.Time commitment
Time commitment is dependent on reviews and patient partner involvement – can range from a single instance of 2-4 hours to 10+ hours spread over 3-5 instances. Due to the type of work, the patient partner involvement may be on short-notice and may be fast-paced. Trained patient partners have the opportunity to turn down projects if it doesn’t fit their expertise or if the timing does not align with their availability with no prejudice for future opportunities. Patient partners participating in a review are expected to be available on short-notice to participate in communication regarding the project.

What can you expect from the research team?
Evidence synthesis training will be provided to patient partners. Patient partners will be contacted by the research team to inquire about availability when review inquiries are received by the team. Patient partners will be working alongside one Research Scientist for each review. Once a request is accepted by REST, matched patient partners will be introduced to the research team for that review and discussions on involvement in relation to product and timelines will be jointly established. Throughout the process Patient Partners are encouraged to communicate and collaborate with the review team. Participant engagement is a flexible process and may look different for each review. These activities can include, but are not limited to participation in the refinement of the question, review of the draft review and the co-creation of plain language summaries or infographic items, as well as advising dissemination plans outside of traditional REST distribution.
