Heart to heart: Students share the love with health care workers
When Regina teacher Sara Weese asked her students who they’d like to send a little extra love to this Valentine’s Day, health care workers were at the top of their list.
“The students from kindergarten to Grade 7 at Arcola Community School wanted to recognize the hard work and sacrifices that are being made day to day to keep us and our loved ones safe,” said Weese, the school’s primary arts education teacher.
The students created joyful cards with heartfelt messages as a show of their appreciation.
Weese mailed the cards to the Regina General Hospital where they were held for 24 hours in accordance with infection prevention and control measures and then delivered to the staff working on the units.
“This is so amazing,” said Taryn Lorencz, director of Medicine (Regina) for Saskatchewan Health Authority. “I really appreciate them thinking of the staff.”
Tracy Hagan and Richelle Marcynuk were among those who received a valentine.
“The cards made our day!” said Hagan.
Added Marcynuk, “The messages were very touching; we appreciate the students thinking of us.”
Weese said the selfless acts of health care workers have made a lasting impression on students, a number of whom called them “heroes.”
“The valentines are a gesture from our Arcola family to all of you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
