Overdose Outreach Team partnerships supporting recovery
Partnerships between community-based organizations and Overdose Outreach Teams (OOTs) with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) are saving lives and playing a supportive role in longer-term recovery success.
The Regina OOT is supporting Harley, who has made major strides in his recovery over the last six months.
Harley was referred to the Regina OOT by New Beginnings, a community-based shelter, following a near-fatal overdose and significant withdrawal symptoms.
“Harley says the OOT team helped save his life,” said Regina OOT member Bryan Looker, a Fire Fighter/Primary Care Paramedic with Regina Fire and Protective Services. “He reports continued sobriety, housing stability, moving towards more independence, and is even enrolled at Sask Polytech.”
The Regina OOT helped Harley access required medications, support from the Regina Detox Centre and connected him to the Opioid Addiction Treatment (OAT) clinic.
After participating in a residential treatment program at Pine Lodge, where Harley continued his recovery, Regina Treaty/Status Indian Services (RTSIS) helped him secure supportive housing.
Harley continues to call the Regina OOT monthly, who are happy he continues sharing updates on his success.
