SHA surpasses 2023-24 addictions treatment target
Under Saskatchewan’s new Action Plan for Mental Health and Addictions, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed to adding 500 addictions treatment spaces across the province. So far, 183 of these spaces have been announced, including:
- 15 at Thorpe Recovery Centre, Lloydminster;
- 26 at St. Joseph’s Recovery Centre, Estevan;
- 32 at Possibilities Recovery Centre, Saskatoon; and
- 36 virtual spaces through EHN Canada.
Treatment spaces will continue to grow with 60 more beds opening in the coming months at the former Living Skies Retreat and Conference Centre in Lumsden. Poundmaker’s Lodge is also set to open 14 adult combined treatment and withdrawal management spaces at the former Drumming Hill Youth Centre in North Battleford this spring.
“The services Poundmaker’s Lodge will offer will be the first of its kind within the Battlefords area,” said Chad Sayers, Interim Executive Director, Primary Health Care, SHA. “We are fortunate to partner with Poundmaker’s Lodge, which brings almost 50 years of experience and a proven track record in addictions treatment services, with a focus on Indigenous culture and spirituality.”
