Wolseley Emergency Services set to resume in the New Year
Thanks to the successful recruitment efforts of the community of Wolseley, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), and the Government of Saskatchewan, access to emergency health services in Wolseley will soon improve.
Emergency Department (ED) services are set to become available early in 2024, in accordance with the first phase of a reopening plan agreed to by all parties over the past two years.
“I can’t thank the community and area enough for the patience and commitment over the past several years to help us get to this point,” said Jacqui Kennett-Peppler, Executive Director Primary Health Care, SHA. “We are thrilled that we were able to recruit enough staff to make this phased-in re-opening possible and look forward to the next phase.”
An official date for the resumption of ER services will be shared with the community in the coming weeks.
When services do partially resume, residents can access emergency services at the Wolseley and District Hospital on weekdays from 08:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. During this initial phase, these services will not be available after hours, weekends, and statutory holidays. Also, during this phase, the facility will not have acute care beds available.
The phased reopening is a carefully planned process and further updates will be provided in follow-up announcements. Further changes to services are dependent on stable human resources.
“Recruitment efforts by the SHA have yielded positive results, with the successful onboarding of new health-care staff. Over the next four months, these recruits will undergo thorough training and orientation to ensure they are prepared to deliver a range of services, including acute care, emergency room services, long-term care, and outpatient services,” said Dan Drummond, Director Primary Health Care, SHA.
The SHA remains committed to making progress on the phased reopening plan and working collaboratively with community leaders and the provincial government to ensure the provision of accessible and sustainable care to the residents of Wolseley and surrounding areas.
