Emergency room services enhanced in Davidson
Residents of Davidson and surrounding area will have improved access to sustainable emergency room (ER) services with the launch of the virtual physician (VP) pilot program at the Davidson Health Centre in February.
Davidson is the fourth community to benefit from this innovative pilot program being delivered by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) in an effort to improve access to rural emergency health services. The VP program provides nursing staff remote access to a physician using the existing infrastructure of HealthLine 811 when no local physician is available to provide emergency department coverage. All patients are assessed, triaged, and receive treatment based on their care needs.
To date, the program has successfully been launched in Porcupine Plain, Oxbow and Broadview. The pilot program is a short-term solution that helps to maintain emergency services in the community while physician, nursing, or other health human resources are stabilized.
Individuals requiring emergency services should call 9-1-1. Non-urgent health-related questions may be directed to the provincial HealthLine 24/7 by calling 8-1-1
