Mental Health Capacity Building benefits more students
With school onboarding and hiring complete, implementation of the Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) program in five new school divisions continues to progress.
The MHCB program is led by the Saskatchewan Health Authority with support from the Ministry of Health, who funds the program, and the Ministry of Education, who provides advice on growth and expansion of the program. MHCB is focused on creating a healthy school environment by supporting positive mental health and well-being for students in schools across Saskatchewan. The Government of Saskatchewan announced the MHCB expansion in April.
“The work done by the MHCB project team in our building is crucial to the success that we're seeing in our students,” said Dave Lokinger, principal of Prince Albert Collegiate Institute (PACI), one of several schools in the province benefitting from MHCB. “It’s helping us define and create a positive mental health culture and become the school we’ve always wanted to be.”
MHCB supports early intervention and access to supports for those experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health challenges. Through MHCB, students, teachers, and families gain mental health awareness, knowledge, and skills to build a culture of safety and belonging.
