No place like home for a rural nurse
There is no place quite like home for Kashina Mahon, Registered Nurse (RN) at Rosetown and District Health Centre.
Growing up in Rosetown, Mahon had always known she wanted to become a nurse. After completing her education, she returned to her hometown as a grad nurse. Within three months, she officially became an RN in July 2023.
“I am grateful for this opportunity as an RN to provide care for the people in my hometown,” said Mahon. “The most rewarding part of my career so far has been the numerous skills I have built in under a year.”
Mahon also appreciates working alongside a team of health-care professionals because it allows them to share tasks and helps deliver safe and efficient patient care.
“I have learned from many knowledgeable and skilled nurses, and truly appreciate their mentorship and insights,” said Mahon. “I am excited to continue learning and building my skillset.”
Returning to the rural community of Rosetown, Mahon was able to take advantage of the Government of Saskatchewan’s Rural and Remote Recruitment Incentive. It is part of the Health Human Resources Action Plan, which includes several initiatives to recruit, train, incentivize, and retain health-care professionals.
