Northern nursing grad is grateful to start
For Kailey Pochipinski, starting her first few shifts as a Graduate Nurse had her feeling grateful in all sorts of ways: for the education and opportunities provided to her, for her friends and family that supported her, and for the coworkers who have welcomed her as part of their team.
Kailey started her career as a medical records clerk in Prince Albert. Since then, she has earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, and has transitioned into a new career.
“I had the idea to be a nurse when I was younger, but wasn’t ready to pursue it. Then in 2018, I decided it was time,” Kailey said. Her experience within the health-care system, specifically when her grandparents required care, made her realize a career as a nurse was calling her.
“When I saw the care my grandparents received, and how much it meant to them and my family that they were looked after, I thought to myself ‘I could do that’,” Kailey said.
Kailey is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, College of Nursing at the Prince Albert Campus. She now holds a position in the pediatric department at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, a specialty that aligns with her commitment to care.
“The most exciting experience of my education was the selection of my specialty. Once I was in peds, it just clicked and I knew I wanted to spend my career in that unit,” she noted.
