Parking changes at Regina General Hospital as site preparation begins
Site preparation for the new parkade at the Regina General Hospital (RGH) will begin on October 10 with the installation of fencing around the construction site. Fencing will encompass a large area of the northwestern portion of the parking lot, resulting in the relocation of approximately 315 patient, visitor, and staff parking stalls.
Patient and visitor parking has been prioritized and will continue to be located adjacent to the site. Patients and visitors can continue to access the hospital at the 14th Avenue entrance, with parking stalls available just east of the current patient and visitor parking lot. Visitors are asked to follow the signage and allow additional time when coming to the hospital.
As site preparations begin, there will no longer be parking gates or a booth. As a result, Pay by Plate parking will be implemented at all patient and visitor lots at RGH. “Pay-by Plate” is a pay-on-arrival parking system. Customers park and then pre-purchase blocks of time by registering their vehicle’s license plate number at a pay station located inside the hospital, or through an app. The app is called ParkMobile and can be found in your APP store on your smartphone or by scanning the QR code located on the signage in the parking lot.
Patient and visitor parking rates are not affected by any of these changes.
Work is underway to support staff whose parking is affected by site preparation, and eventual construction. Staff affected are being prioritized for on-site parking, with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA)’s staff Park & Ride program being expanded for the remaining employees affected. On-site accessible parking will still be available for staff who require it.
The SHA understands the current challenges with parking at and around the Regina General Hospital now, and in the months to come with these disruptions. We are working diligently to minimize the impact on patients, visitors and staff, and appreciate everyone’s continued patience during this time.
The new parkade will increase on-site parking upon its completion and is anticipated to take about a year and a half to complete once construction begins this fall.
