Public Service Announcement: St. Paul's front entrance construction
Visitors, staff and patients will notice work underway on a new and improved main entrance to St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH) in Saskatoon. Site preparation for the project will begin November 28 with the installation of fencing around the work site in front of the hospital. Construction on the two-year project will begin almost immediately.
Visitors, patients, and staff are encouraged to follow the signage in and around the hospital grounds during construction and take into account traffic delays due to parking and traffic restrictions that will be in place. Patients coming to the hospital should factor in extra time, depending on their mobility. Changes to parking and hospital access points can mean some additional travel time to access Registration.
“This new entrance has been planned for quite some time and it is very exciting to see it come to fruition,” said Tracy Muggli, Executive Director, St. Paul’s Hospital. “Patient flow, increasing visitor and patient access needs and safety considerations necessitated the change. This new entrance will greatly improve the visitor and patient experience at this hospital.”
The front entrance project includes an 8,353 ft2 expansion; renovations that support the relocation of Patient Registration, Security and Information Services, and a First Nations and Métis Healing Centre.
Access to the emergency department (ED) remains unchanged. However, patient and visitor parking in front of the hospital has been reduced to allow access for emergency vehicles and patient drop-offs. Non-emergent patients and visitors will be required to access the hospital via the west entrances on Avenue R, one of which is fully accessible for those with mobility challenges.
Visitor parking on 20th Street and Avenue R will also be part of the construction zone so parking has been relocated to the lot across the street (southeast corner of 20 Street).
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) understands the challenges patients, visitors, and staff may face when visiting St. Paul’s Hospital during the new entrance construction. We are working diligently to minimize the impact and appreciate your continued patience and understanding as we work to complete this project. We look forward to celebrating the opening of the new entrance.
