Situation Update: SHA Working to Resume Operations at Weyburn General Hospital
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is working to resume operations at the Weyburn General Hospital following an investigation into a strong chemical odour that was observed throughout the facility. After removing the source of the chemical odour, the SHA facility maintenance staff have ventilated the building and are thoroughly cleaning impacted areas to remove remaining chemical odour.
Emergency Department access at the Weyburn General Hospital is anticipated to resume in the afternoon of Saturday, January 13th. The SHA will provide public notification when Emergency Department access is available. Prior to the resumption of Emergency Department operations, anyone in the Weyburn area requiring urgent or emergent care is urged to call 9-1-1 or travel to the nearest hospital outside of Weyburn.
Once normal operations at the Weyburn General Hospital resumes, patients that were evacuated to local care homes and other health centres will be transferred back to the facility.
The SHA remains thankful for the cooperation and understanding of patients and community members during this situation. We would like to recognize the ongoing efforts of our staff, physicians and paramedics who continue to provide exceptional care during this situation.
