Virtual physician program expanding emergency room access in Wolseley
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is pleased to advise Wolseley and area residents that emergency room (ER) access at the Wolseley Memorial Integrated Care Centre (WMICC) has expanded, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., thanks to the implementation of the virtual physician program and continued recruitment success.
The virtual physician program is a temporary strategy that supports the health-care team in Wolseley to continue providing safe, patient-centred care and address the emergent medical needs of patients presenting at the ER.
Using existing HealthLine 811 technology, the virtual physician program allows the local nursing team to consult remotely with experienced ER physicians located elsewhere via voice or video. Together, they assess ER patients and determine the appropriate course of action.
Wolseley joins 20 other rural communities across the province, like Broadview and Kipling, that have utilized the virtual physician program to support safe, ongoing access to ER services.
Individuals requiring emergency services should call 9-1-1. Non-urgent health-related questions may be directed to the 24/7 HealthLine service by calling 8-1-1. Residents are encouraged to seek routine health-care services during clinic hours. Appointments can be scheduled at the Wolseley Primary Health Care Clinic by calling 306-698-4444.
