When and where can I get my flu shot in Saskatchewan this year?
Your “one stop shop” for all the answers to your flu immunization questions is 4flu.ca. The provincial fall immunization program officially starts on Tuesday, October 10. All Saskatchewan residents are encouraged to plan ahead and get their Influenza (flu) shot and COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible.
Who?
Anyone six months of age and older can receive fall immunization. Being vaccinated early in the fall and winter is especially important for people at high-risk of complications due to respiratory illness:
- All individuals 50 years of age and older;
- Residents of long term care and other congregate living settings, including personal care homes, and shelters;
- All Individuals six months and older with underlying medical conditions that place them at higher risk of severe COVID-19;
- Pregnant individuals;
- Indigenous peoples and those living in northern and remote communities;
- Health-care workers, first responders, caregivers and other essential service workers.
- Health care workers, first responders, and caregivers of people in the above high-risk groups are highly recommended to receive their immunizations.
- Residents 65 years and above are able to receive the Fluzone® High-Dose Quadrivalent Influenza vaccine.
Where and When?
Fall immunization for influenza and COVID-19 is available at walk-in clinics or by appointment at Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) clinics across the province, at some physician and nurse practitioner offices, and some pharmacies. Clinics begin October 10, 2023. Children aged six months to five years must be immunized at a public health clinic or by a physician or nurse practitioner.
It is safe for anyone who would like to receive both the flu and COVID-19 vaccinations at the same appointment.
How?
Beginning October 3, individuals can book appointments for themselves and groups of up to six people for immunizations through the SHA Patient Booking System. (Watch a video walking through the process of how to use the SHA Patient Booking System). Appointments can also be booked by calling 1-833-727-5829. Appointments are not required for walk in clinics.
