Anesthesia residents lend a hand to respiratory therapy colleagues
Lisa Martin and Karen Schmid warmly thank the anesthesia residents who have been covering certain respiratory therapy (RT) duties at Royal University Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) during recent COVID-19 surges.
“They have brought tremendous value to the ICU by enabling us to manage the added workload,” said Martin, RT manager at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. “They truly emanated our values of safety, respect and collaboration.”
About a dozen anesthesia residents volunteered to fill RT shifts seven days a week, 12 hours a day until mid-January when they reduced their hours to weekend coverage so they could support the ramp up of surgical services.
“Everyone worked extremely well together,” said Schmid, RT clinical supervisor with a focus on adults. “Everyone was grateful for the help we received.”
