Art Council collaboration improves quality of life and safety for Residents at YDNH
Skinner Place is a memory care neighbourhood at Yorkton & District Nursing Home. To transform Skinner Place into a more inviting, familiar home for residents, the Recreation department collaborated with Yorkton Arts Council to commission murals to disguise our exit doors and to add warmth and brightness to our dining room. Residents actively participated in co-designing and were engaged in making changes along the way. The residents chose names for the pets that are part of the murals. Getting it right was very important for our Residents and after declaring that Sanchez (the cat) was not visible enough, the artist worked with Residents for a re-design.
Thank you to artists Angelina Kardynal, Stephanie Newsham and Tonia Vermette for the collaboration and partnership with Residents and your creativity to make their visions come alive. This project has improved safety and quality of life for Residents in our Long Term Care home.
