Celebrating vaccinations with dancing in Davidson
June 9 was a day of celebration for long-term care residents and staff at Davidson Health Centre.
That day, staff and residents boogied together during a dance party held to celebrate being fully vaccinated at their long-term care home, and the opening of family presence restrictions.
“We have a great team and we love our residents,” said Ashley Anderson, facility manager. “Seeing the smiles on the residents’ faces on that day was so rewarding after such a long pandemic. It renewed our hope for a new normal to come soon.”
The party was hosted by the activities staff at the home, and was for residents and staff only.
“Our director, Tammy Blackwell, had mentioned a dance party as a way to celebrate how excited and happy the residents were about restrictions starting to ease,” Anderson explained. “And our activities staff were key to making it happen.”
During the last year and a half, while visitor restrictions to the home were in place, the staff at the home did their best to help the residents cope. They spent one-on-one time with each resident and provided more recreational opportunities. Technology was used a lot to connect them with their families. Thanks to donations, they were able to purchase items so that residents could use Facetime, Skype and video to call their families.
The residents were very happy for the opportunity for more of their family to visit, and it showed in their dance moves.
