Give yourself a gift – Take precautions against the flu and COVID-19
Do what’s right for you this holiday season – give yourself the gift of staying healthy and safe from influenza, COVID-19 and other illnesses.
If you are spending the holidays with loved ones, travelling to destinations away from home, going to school concerts or holiday socials, or sharing some time with those less fortunate, you can do so safely by taking precautions.
- Get your flu shot and make sure your COVID-19 vaccinations are up to date. Both are available at walk-in clinics and booked appointments, including first and second doses against COVID-19, right up to the latest booster doses. You and your family can get both immunizations at the same time. Participating pharmacies also have both vaccines available.
- Keep your hands clean. Washing your hands often and thoroughly with soap and warm water is one of the most effective ways to reduce the spread of infections and germs. When soap and water aren’t on hand, using hand sanitizer is a good alternative.
- Keep your hands away from your face. Viruses and germs can enter through your eyes, nose and mouth.
- If you have to sneeze or cough, do so into the bed of your arm, not into your hand.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces that many people touch, such as phones, doorknobs and television remotes.
- Consider wearing a mask if you anticipate close contact with people or being in a setting with large numbers of people. Be kind to those who choose to do so.
- Above all, if you are sick, stay home.
These precautions will reduce your risk of getting influenza or COVID-19 this holiday season.
