Is it appendicitis?
Everyone has experienced some kind of stomach pain in their lifetime, but appendicitis is a type of belly pain you can’t ignore and will likely require medical intervention. Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix, a finger-shaped pouch in your colon on the right side of your abdomen. While anyone can develop appendicitis, it is most common in people between 10 and 30 years old.
Often appendicitis begins as pain around the belly button that then moves to the lower right side. Sometimes the pain only shows up in the lower right part of your abdomen. This pain is most commonly constant and aching in nature, often worse when you move. It should be noted that the pain site changes from person to person depending on your age and position of the appendix. The pain, which continues to worsen, is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite. In the later stages of appendicitis, you may develop a fever or chills. If you are experiencing these symptoms, see a health-care provider as soon as possible.
If not treated, appendicitis can be life-threatening as it can cause serious complications by rupturing. Treatment for appendicitis often involves surgical removal of the appendix known as an appendectomy.
