La Loche pop-up clinic a huge success
A recent Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) pop-up vaccination clinic in La Loche indicates there is a renewed interest and understanding of the importance of vaccines, both first and second doses, in that part of Saskatchewan.
More than 100 people received a COVID-19 vaccination at the Aug. 12 event. Of these, more than 60 were there for their first dose.
Jennifer Ahenakew, executive director of Primary Health Care – North, says vaccine uptake in the community has increased in recent weeks.
“La Loche has seen a lot during the COVID pandemic and we have had such strong support from community leaders as we have kept the community informed of what is happening,” she said. “During our last community outbreak which included numerous cases from the Delta variant, I believe many people saw how much more serious this Delta variant is and it brought to light the importance of the vaccine.”
Pop-up vaccination clinics allow the SHA and its community partners to bring vaccines directly to people who still need them. The SHA is looking for every opportunity possible to meet the people of Saskatchewan where they live, work and play to help them #StickittoCOVID. Given the success and recent resurgence of interest, more pop-up clinics are planned for La Loche.
