Regina Public Library assisting people with proof of vaccination
It takes the effort of a community to support our province’s fight against this global pandemic, and the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s community partner Regina Public Library (RPL) is stepping up in this battle. RPL has been assisting people from the Regina area in setting up their proof of vaccination and ensuring it’s readily accessible when needed.
“I helped a 77-year-old lady print her QR code,” said Robin Berg, Reference and Programming Assistant at the Regent Place Branch. “I also showed her how to use the QR verifier. She goes to people’s homes and helps them with nail care. She was thrilled to learn about the verifier as she can use it for her business.”
At the George Bothwell Branch, library staff helped two women originally from Sudan who spent years in refugee camps in Chad before moving to Canada. They are planning to visit family in Chad in six months and needed help getting their proof of vaccinations set up on their phones.
“I have seen so much patience and kindness from staff to customers,” said Carol Jones, Customer Service Supervisor at George Bothwell. “The gratitude I have heard expressed over and over again, mainly by customers who were getting quite wound up, confused and worried when attempting this on their own has been heart-warming.”
“The look of relief and happiness when they leave as compared to the look of anxiety when they come in is gratifying,” said Ruth Schneider, Customer Service Associate. “Hats off to our public service clerks adapting to the ever changing tasks COVID has given.”
There have been some fun moments and laughs between staff and clients. At the Sunrise Branch, a couple came in to drop off donuts to staff and a thank-you card because staff helped them get their accounts set up earlier that week. Initially, the gentleman wasn’t overly interested in participating as he exclaimed “I’m 80 years old, I never go anywhere!” to which his wife replied “We are going out for dinner again sometime in our lifetime, sit down!”
“We are very grateful to the Regina Public Library for assisting Regina residents in accessing and printing their Proof of Vaccination records,” said Laveena Tratch, COVID Immunization Chief. “Like many community and business organizations in Regina, they continue to respond quickly and creatively to the needs of their community during this pandemic. Acts of kindness and thoughtfulness like this are so appreciated by health care as they help us to use our resources more efficiently in the fight against COVID-19.”
A huge thank you to RPL for the extra time and effort this has taken!
