Saltcoats resident biking to raise funds for long-term care home
At 91 years of age, Glenn Laycock has no intentions of slowing down.
The Rural Municipality of Saltcoats resident rode his bike from his home to Bird’s Point at Round Lake – a total of over 50 kilometres – to raise funds for a new ceiling track lift at Lakeside Manor Care Home (LMCH) in Saltcoats.
“I walk and exercise daily, so why not do some fundraising?” asked Laycock while he was still training for his ride. “Raising money for Lakeside Manor was of interest to me as I donated to the facility when it was being built.”
With the weather cooperating into fall, Glenn spent many hours outdoors training for the ride. He completed his ride on October 19.
“Some of my family members have been residents of the care home in the past,” Laycock noted. “I enjoy being outdoors and riding my electric bike, so I figured I could do something I love while giving back to the community. I know the care home can use the ceiling lift and I hope I can do my part in making that happen.”
“We are so thankful for Glenn’s generosity and thoughtfulness,” says Linda Orosz, Health Services Manager at LMCH. “He is someone who recognized a need and is taking action.”
Anyone looking to donate to Glenn’s fundraising efforts can do so by contacting Lakeside Manor Care Home.
“There are many fundraising events happening for all types of causes,” says Laycock. “Without a sense of community, we are missing out on so much.”
