Saskatoon Health Bus delivers COVID-19 vaccines
In non-COVID times, the Saskatoon Health Bus provides mobile health-care services to people in the community. However, the bus has now been adapted, in partnership with Medavie Ambulance, to provide COVID-19 vaccines to those who are experiencing challenges accessing COVID-19 immunizations.
“It’s important for everyone in our community to have access to COVID-19 vaccinations no matter what their situation. We know that drive-thru and booked appointments don’t work for some of our populations,” said Jenny Cushon, COVID-19 Vaccine Chief for Saskatoon. “Repurposing the health bus is helping us take vaccines to groups that would otherwise have challenges accessing this critical health-care service.”
The first Health Bus vaccination clinic, on June 1, 2021 was able to provide vaccines to 66 people. Other Health Bus clinics are scheduled throughout the June and will be available to anyone who is eligible to receive their first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Other mobile health care services are not offered on the Health Bus at this time.
