Temporary Reduction to Biggar Emergency and Acute Care Services
Temporary Reduction to Biggar Emergency and Acute Care Services
Please be advised of the temporary reduction of 24-hour emergency and acute care services at the Biggar and District Health Centre effective 8 a.m. on Sunday, January 9, 2022. This will be in place until further notice.
Due to challenges with the recruitment and retention of registered nurses and the inability to provide safe, predictable patient care, emergency services will be reduced to 11 hours per day/seven days per week (8 a.m.-7 p.m. daily) at the Biggar and District Health Centre. In addition, all acute care beds will be temporarily converted to Alternate Level of Care (ALC). Patients who may be admitted as ALC do not require daily attendance by a physician or the 24/7 support of a registered nurse and include palliative, convalescent, respite, or rehab patients.
Regular lab/x-ray services will be available. However, there will be no after-hours services. Outpatient services, primary health care, and long-term care are not affected by this disruption.
Emergency services will remain available at the following nearby locations:
- Rosetown Health Centre
- Kerrobert Health Centre
- St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon
- Battlefords Union Hospital, Battleford
PLEASE REMEMBER: In the event of an emergency call 9-1-1 and an ambulance will be dispatched to provide assistance.
Call HealthLine 811 toll-free 24 hours per day if you have non-urgent health or mental health-related questions.
The status of RN recruitment and coverage to provide safe, predictable emergency and acute care services and the ability to minimize potential service disruptions will be taken into consideration before fully reopening the ER or restoring acute care inpatient admissions. The SHA is committed to updating residents as information is available.
