What’s new to the 2022-23 flu program this year?
Each year the 2022-23 flu program is reviewed and updated to improve patient safety. This flu season program has expanded eligibility for the Fluzone® High Dose Quadrivalent Influenza vaccine to all residents 65 years of age and older. Previously, the high-dose flu vaccinations were available to residents in long-term care and personal care homes only.
Getting a flu shot is especially important for people at high-risk of influenza complications. Adults 65 years of age and older have a higher risk of developing influenza-related complications such as pneumonia and becoming hospitalized because of these complications. Adults living in congregate living settings such as long-term care facilities are more likely of being exposed to influenza due to facility outbreaks and unimmunized staff and visitors.
Also new this year, Saskatchewan residents can now book groups of up to six people for both influenza and COVID-19 immunization in the same session using the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s online booking tool available at www.4flu.ca. Reserve a spot today for you and your loved ones.
