Role overview
Housing is a key determinant of health, especially for people living with serious mental illness (SMI). High Support Housing (HSH) provides 24-hour onsite staffing, personal support, and health partner connections for residents living with SMI and having complex support needs. Despite the critical role of HSH for individuals who cannot live independently in the community, little is known about the models available in Canada, and without practice standards, there is limited understanding of best practices in promoting mental health recovery and social inclusion. This study aims to fill these gaps by examining in depth 8-10 representative HSH programs across Canada, investigating how different models and program philosophies impact living conditions, recovery, and social inclusion, while also exploring costs and best practices to inform policy and practice. Involving individuals with lived experience, as well as family members, is essential for ensuring that our research goals, activities, and outcomes align with the needs of residents in High Support Housing and their support networks. To encourage meaningful participation, we are forming a Lived Experience Council consisting of 10 to 12 members to guide our study. As a member of the Lived Experience Council, you will have opportunities to connect with researchers and guide the research study. Some activities might include (but are not limited to): - Attending meetings to offer input and advice on study materials - Informing study recruitment and data collection activities - Participating in data analysis and interpretation of findings - Developing recommendations for policy and practice - Participating in knowledge translation activities
