From sand to snow: A nursing journey
Saskatchewan is now home to many internationally trained nurses (IENs), including Angelika, a nurse from Saudi Arabia.
A Saskatchewan nursing recruitment campaign in the Philippines inspired her decision to move from a world of sand to a world of snow.
“It felt like a door had opened. I wanted to explore new horizons, expand my skills and find a better work-life balance,” said Angelika. “Something inside me whispered that this was my chance, and it was the beginning of everything.”
Angelika’s brave move has meant the world to her.
“The Saskatchewan Health Authority’s (SHA’s) initiatives have been instrumental in supporting me. I am so grateful. I look forward to continuing my career with the SHA and hope to stay here until I retire.”
Her advice to IENs considering a move is this: “The road will test you, but if it is meant for you, it will happen. Don’t lose hope. Keep believing.”
The National Nurses Week theme for 2025 is “The Power of Nurses to Transform Health.” Our highly skilled, dedicated and compassionate nursing staff demonstrate this daily. They live the SHA’s CARES values of compassion, accountability, respect, equity and safety every day, for everyone. Thank you for all you do.
Angelika’s career journey has brought her to Saskatchewan, and she is enjoying every moment.
