Clinically Extremely Vulnerable Patients
On Feb. 9, 2021, the Government of Saskatchewan released the priority sequencing for Phase 2 of Saskatchewan's COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery Plan, which includes people with underlying health conditions that are clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV). On March 16, 2021, the Ministry of Health announced that CEV individuals will be eligible to book their COVID-19 vaccinations as part of priority Phase 2.
Approximately 6,000 letters were sent to CEV individuals from the Ministry of Health and the Saskatchewan Health Authority identifying that they are eligible to receive the priority Phase 2 COVID-19 vaccination and instructions on how to book their appointment.
Individuals receiving immunosuppressant drugs (see list below) are also eligible to receive a letter of eligibility.
If a CEV individual does not receive their letter of eligibility, they are able to request one from a member of their healthcare team (physician or nurse practitioner) in order to book their appointment.
Additional CEV Criteria added as of April 13, 2021
On April 13, 2021, the Ministry of Health expanded the criteria for CEV to include the following:
- Pregnant women
- Youth ages 16 and 17 who meet the CEV criteria
Physicians and Nurse Practitioners are asked to contact eligible patients and provide them a signed letter of eligibility so that they are able to book their vaccination appointment. Please note that patients will need to bring their eligibility letter to their appointment in order to receive their vaccine.
CEV patients <55 years of age are eligible to utilize a COVID-19 vaccine drive thru site as long as the site is providing an mRNA vaccine (ie. Pfizer).
An up-to-date list of CEV criteria is available in the Vaccine Q&A and on the Government of Saskatchewan website.
