Management Essentials

Course Description
The Management Essentials Program is designed specifically for new managers within the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). This 7.5-hour course provides a high-level introduction to the essential skills and knowledge required for effective management in or organization.
Participants will explore key topics such as leadership principles, out-of-scope terms & benefits, and navigating challenging conversations. The program also covers critical areas like human resources, staff safety, policy, and ethics, ensuring managers are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of healthcare management.
Delivered in an on-demand format, this orientation program allows managers to complete the course within the first week of their new role. Interactive modules, case studies, and practical exercises are incorporated to enhance learning and application of concepts. By the end of the program, participants will have a solid foundation in healthcare management practices, ready to lead their teams with confidence.
This program is provincial and designed for new managers, regardless of their geographical location in Saskatchewan.
Course Topics
Management Essentials consists of 16 learning modules and takes approximately 7.5 hours (1 day) to complete. Learning module topics include:

- Labour Relations and Strategic Initiatives & Employee Relations (LR & SIER)
- Accommodations and Attendance Management (AAM)
- Workforce Planning and Employment Strategies (WPES)
- Staff Services
- Human Resources Business Partners (HRBP)
- Staff Safety
- Administrative Information Management System (AIMS)
- First Nations & Métis Health (FNMH)
- Finance
- Policy
- Ethics
- Accountability Performance Plan (APP)
- Mentorship
- Navigating Difficult Conversations
- Wellbeing in Leadership
Participant Information
Management Essentials is designed for new Out-of-Scope (OOS) Managers in the Saskatchewan Health Authority. It is recommended that Management Essentials be completed by new managers with in the first week of their new role.
If you are a current SHA OOS Manager, you are also welcome to enroll in the Management Essentials course at anytime to update/refresh your knowledge.
