Attendance Management
The purpose of the Attendance Support program is to assist employees to maintain regular attendance at work and to establish the process for consistent and reasonable administration of the program throughout the SHA.
Types of absenteeism
- Culpable Absenteeism: This is blameworthy and occurs when an employee fails to show up for work due to something within their control. This type of absenteeism should be automatically directed to LR for review and potential disciplinary action.

Non-Culpable Absenteeism: This is incidental or innocent absenteeism. It is occurring at no fault of the employee’s and may be linked to illness, disability, injury, family or personal responsibilities. All absences are treated as innocent unless there is clear evidence to the contrary.
