The Learner Placement Unit recommends these workshops if you:
- Never had a student
- Thinking about taking a student
- Have taken students and it has been two years since your last workshop
Please contact your manager for further clarification on attending.
"Growing the Nurses of Tomorrow"
This course is intended for current, future or previous preceptors and is delivered in real time by a facilitator virtually.
- Basic tasks/responsibilities of precepting a student
- Focuses on the “adult learner” and is divided into three phases (majority of time during the workshop)
- Importance of a solid orientation, setting the stage for effective communication, feedback and troubleshooting
- Expected behaviour for fourth-year adult nursing students - providing suggestions for feedback, actions by the preceptor, and understanding when additional assistance is required
- Equity, diversity, and Inclusion in Education/Health Care settings

IEN Preceptor Training: Transplanting The Nurses of Tomorrow
If you are currently a preceptor of an Internationally Educated Nurse (IEN) student, you will be provided with access. This is an asynchronous learning course. Once enrolled, you can log in and complete it on your own time.
Seven modules within the course discuss the IEN experience, communication, the role of the preceptor as a facilitator and coach, competency-based evaluation and feedback.
Once you have been assigned as a preceptor, a request is made to the Saskpoly Helpdesk. If you have not received an invite, you can contact IEN Project at ienproject@saskpolytech.ca. If you have been enrolled and are having difficulty accessing, you can contact the Saskpoly Helpdesk at helpdesk@saskpolytech.ca
