Ethics
Every day physicians, staff, patients and families in our facilities are faced with ethical dilemmas. They may be torn between competing values or duties that pull them in different directions. In these instances, it is helpful to seek the support and advice of professionals who are trained in addressing these situations with sensitivity and understanding.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority has a provincial ethics program that is available across the province to help support our patients, families, physicians and staff in carefully considering options and making connections with others who can help in the decision-making process.
The SHA Ethics program is a component of the Academics and Learning portfolio, a division of Quality, Safety and Strategy (QSS). QSS supports a culture of continuous learning and improvement for a healthy workplace and the delivery of safe, high quality, patient and family-centred care.
With support and oversight from the Director of Ethics, Dr. Melody Isinger, the Ethics Team along with fifteen (15) Local Ethics committees provide ethics consults, education, policy and research protocol reviews.
