Fluency Direct While Wearing PPE
The following was provided by 3M/M*Modal regarding speech recognition using Fluency Direct while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
If a provider finds a decrease in recognition while wearing extensive PPE (ex R-95 + surgical mask).
- Please ensure microphone is kept approx. 20 cm from mouth. We are finding that FD is picking up "brushing" noise from the masks rubbing against each other. Moving the microphone back will help reduce this. Having the microphone approximately 20 cm back from mouth is a "best practice" that many users find they stray from over time.
- Complete a microphone re-calibration.
Remember that it is only necessary to calibrate/dictate until the OK button turns blue.
Following these steps has been shown to allow for better recognition with extensive PPE.
