Physician Skills Enhancement
Please note: The Physician Skills Enhancement program is no longer taking enrollments.
Physician Skills Enhancement (PSE) provides an opportunity for physicians to complete a skills enhancement experience, comprised of online modules and clinical experience sessions, in one of four areas - ICU, ER, Hospital, Field Hospital - in order to enhance their skills with a goal of becoming more proficient in an area of need in the event of a pandemic surge.
Interested in enhancing your skills in ER, ICU, Hospital or Field Hospital?
1. Complete the skills inventory
Email pandemicdoc@saskhealthauthority.ca or click here to complete the skills inventory
Express your interest in skills enhancement in one of four areas: ER, ICU, Hospital, Field Hospital. When your email or skills inventory is received, someone from the PSE program will reach out to you to confirm your program and begin the paperwork process.
2. Sign the Memorandum of Understanding
The pandemic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is provided to you for review. Information is available to you regarding the guidelines and processes outlined for skills enhancement and deployment. You will sign the MOU and return to the PSE team via email. They will send you a fully executed copy for your records.
3. Receive an enrollment package from Continuing Medical Education (CME) College of Medicine
You will receive a letter confirming your enrollment in your chosen program. You will be asked to provide dates you can be available for your clinical experience. In addition, you will receive a course calendar, links to the online modules, information about CME credits as well as invoice and expense claim templates.
4. Complete online learning and clinical experience
You will work with CME to schedule dates for your clinical experience (approx 30 hours). Every effort will be made to accommodate your preferred location. In the meantime, you will complete the online modules (approx 40 hours) at your leisure, ensuring they are completed prior to the completion of your clinical experience.
5. Submit Invoice & Expense Claims
When you have completed all of the online learning and clinical experience in your program, you will use the invoice and expense claim templates provided to you in your enrollment package and submit these as indicated on the invoice. A maximum of 70 hours of your time can be claimed for skills enhancement. Your payment will be processed in a timely fashion upon receipt of your documents.
6. Support Saskatchewan
In the event that a pandemic surge occurs in Saskatchewan over the next few months, you may be called upon for assistance. Physicians will be asked to work in areas that are as close to their skill set and home community as possible. Guiding principles and supports are in place to make this process as seamless as possible for physicians.
