Virtual Care in Clinical Practice
Virtual care is any health care engagement via technology where the patient and provider are in different locations.
- All professional, ethical and legal obligations apply during virtual care.
- Relevant communication during virtual care is to be documented and kept in the health care record.
- Use clinical judgement to decide if the care is appropriate in a virtual manner or if in-person assessment care would be more appropriate.
Registering Virtual Visits
For clinicians running SHA delivered Outpatient Clinic programs (excludes private physician clinic visits):
- Outpatient virtual visits must be registered in order to:
- process electronic information
- communicate patient care results
- create reports
- facilitate patient referrals
- billing
- The person scheduling the virtual visit with the patient is to complete the registration process in the facility where the patient otherwise would have been seen in person.
- Please call the facility Registration Services Manager (Urban) or Health Information Management Manager (Rural & North).
