Public Health Nurse (PHN) Immunization
The following immunization resources are only applicable to Public Health Nurses (PHNs) who are employed by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) in designated programs and Community Health Nurses (CHNs) who are employed by Whitecap Dakota First Nation (WDFN) and provide publicly funded biological products to individuals living on WDFN.
Refer to the Immunization with Publicly Funded Biological Products by Public Health Nurses (PHNs) [CS-CP-0060] clinical procedure for more information, which includes the requirements for the RN Specialty Practice (RNSP) and outlines the requirements for immunization orientation, certification, and competency maintenance for PHNs and designated CHNs inclusive of immunization best practices.
The associated medical directive authorizes certified PHNs and CHNs to independently administer publicly funded biological products in accordance with the Saskatchewan Immunization Manual (SIM).
The clinical procedure and medical directive are supported by additional new resources listed below.
Following publication of the clinical procedure and the associated resources, the PHN Immunization Competency Exam in MyConnection will be required before March 31, 2025.
PHNs/CHNs are required to successfully complete the following learning modules in MyConnection initially and annually to maintain competence. Always log in to MyConnection prior to accessing any learning module to ensure completion is recorded in the system. Refer to Learning Modules Online Access Instructions.

Education Program for Immunization Competencies (EPIC) Course
Refer to the PHN Immunization Competency Orientation Workbook for EPIC (CS-LM-0055) for guidance on how to access and complete the course and the assigned readings in the Saskatchewan resources.
