Description
- Random or 24 hour urine collections are acceptable
- If gadolinium-or iodine-containing contrast media have been administered, a specimen should not be collected for 48 hours

- If submitting aliquot of 24 hour urine, provide volume and dates and times of collection
Specimen collection container
- Preferred Collection Container: Metal-free 24 hour collection container
- Alternative Collection Container: Sterile Starplex orange cap container (unlined cap)
Collection procedure
- Refer to 24 hour urine collection procedure
- Keep specimen cool during collection and after aliquotting
- For random urine, collect midstream
Required volume
- Optimal Volume: 50 mL
- Minimum Volume: 10 mL
Transport and stability
- Keep specimen refrigerated
Rejection criteria
- Specimens received where the proper collection protocols were not followed
