- Avoid mineral supplements for five days prior to collecting urine specimens

- Alternative Collection Container: Metal-free random urine container (orange, unlined lid)
Collection procedure
- Refer to 24 hour urine collection procedure
- Keep specimen cool during collection and after aliquotting
- For random urine, collect midstream
- If submitting aliquot of 24 hour urine, provide volume and dates and times of collection
Required volume
- Optimal Volume:
- 50 mL (random)
- 10 mL (24 Hour)
Transport and stability
- Store and ship refrigerated
Rejection criteria
- Specimens received where the collection protocols were not followed
- Urine collected or received in pink-top container (this container is not metal-free)
