Overview
Description
- Peak occurs 2 - 3 hours after last dose
- Samples should only be collected after patient has been receiving mexiletine for at least 3 days.
- Collect immediately before next oral dose for trough concentration

Required volume
- Optimal volume: 4.5 mL full collection tube
- Minimum volume: 1.5 mL serum or plasma
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)
Transport and stability
- Remove serum from cells within 2 hours of collection
Rejection criteria
- Gross lipemia; Gross hemolysis; Gross icterus
- Specimens received where the proper collection protocols were not followed
- Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Acceptance and Rejection Criteria
